Unibap Space Solutions: KSAT and Unibap collaborate to bring edge computing to Hyper

Salt Lake City, UT, USA - August 26, 2026 - KSAT and Unibap Space Solutions are joining forces to explore a new generation of in-orbit services combining advanced space computing with low-latency satellite connectivity. The collaboration brings Unibap's next-generation iX20 edge computing platform onboard KSAT's Hyperion demonstration mission, creating a testbed for processing, analyzing and distributing information directly in space.

KSAT Hyper extends the company's global ground network into orbit through a constellation of relay satellites designed to provide secure, low-latency connectivity between space and Earth. The first Hyperion satellites, targeted for launch in late 2027, will demonstrate the concept and enable early customer testing ahead of the full Hyper service.

Under an agreement between the companies, Unibap will provide its iX20 edge computing platform for the first two Hyperion satellites. The first iX20 has already been delivered to KSAT for integration.

Through Hyperion, the collaboration will explore how in-orbit high-performance computing can add a new dimension to Hyper by enabling data not only to be transported through the network, but also processed and analyzed directly in orbit. Initial experiments will evaluate distributed in-orbit processing, sharing of generated insights between satellites and ground infrastructure, and autonomous generation and dissemination of information in orbit.

From low-latency data to low-latency insights

The amount of data generated in space is growing rapidly as missions like Earth observation and space-based surveillance deploy increasingly capable sensors. However, for many applications, the value of that data depends not only on what can be observed, but on how quickly the resulting information reaches the people that need it.

Hyper addresses one part of this challenge by extending KSAT's ground network into space. Hyper satellites will act as orbiting ground stations, allowing customer satellites to relay data even if no terrestrial station is available, hence, dramatically reducing the time between acquisition and delivery.

Unibap's iX20 addresses the other part. Designed for high-performance edge computing in space, the platform can ingest, process and analyze up to 100 Gbps of sensor data, using real-time preprocessing and onboard AI to transform raw data into actionable information directly in orbit.

Together, the technologies open the possibility of shortening the entire chain from sensor-to-insight-to-end-user: generating information close to where the data is collected and using Hyper to transport it rapidly to where it can create the most value.

Reducing this chain toward near-real-time in time-critical applications like space ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance), disaster response, or maritime awareness, can fundamentally change how satellite information is used. KSAT identifies these types of applications as key drivers for Hyper and the need for lower-latency access to space-based data.

A new step for Unibap - from products to in-orbit services

For Unibap, the collaboration represents an important step in the company's evolution from a provider of advanced space computing hardware and software toward becoming a provider of in-orbit services.

Unibap has established its position in space edge computing through its flight-proven computing platforms and is increasingly expanding its offering with software for onboard data processing and analysis. The iX20 extends this capability with up to 100 Gbps data throughput, onboard AI, standardized adaptability and end-to-end cybersecurity.

Its standardized Expansion Module architecture allows the platform to be adapted to different payloads, spacecraft and missions while maintaining a common computing and software environment. Built-in Unibap SEQR cybersecurity provides hardware-rooted protection of both the computing platform and the data flowing through it.

The Hyper collaboration creates an opportunity to build on this product and software foundation and explore services delivered using computing infrastructure already deployed in orbit.

The collaboration is based on an agreement signed in May 2026 covering edge computing services for Hyper. The agreement includes iX20 flight units for the first two Hyperion satellites and establishes a framework for the companies to explore further joint business opportunities in edge computing, software and in-orbit services.

The first iX20 has been delivered to KSAT and integration activities are underway ahead of the planned Hyperion launch in late 2027.
